Newcastle United fans have been reacting to a claim from Fabrizio Romano surrounding the potential signing of Diego Carlos in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old Brazilian defender has been one of Newcastle’s main targets during this transfer window, with The Athletic noting last week that they had already had a bid turned down for him by his current club, Sevilla.

Despite that, they were still set to push ahead and continue their efforts to try and sign him, and according to Romano, they are one step closer to making it a reality.

Taking to Twitter, Romano claimed that Eddie Howe’s men have already agreed personal terms with the player, noting that there is “no doubt” on the player’s side.

However, he did also state that there is still no agreement between the clubs over how much he would cost, noting: “Sevilla are keeping the same position as for [Jules] Koundé deal with Chelsea last summer: ‘important’ bid or no agreement. €35m, not enough. Talks ongoing.”
