Newcastle United fans have been reacting to claims surrounding a move for Eddie Nketiah during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old striker has struggled for game time this year, particularly in the Premier League, and could be a potential solution to ending Newcastle’s woes as they bid to avoid the drop.

A recent report from The Telegraph has claimed that Newcastle are “closing in on a double signing before the close of the January transfer window with deals for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Brighton defender Dan Burn likely to bring an end to their recruitment this month”.

Can you name who scored the most league goals for Newcastle United in years gone by? Let's see if you can starting with 2020/21

The double signing could certainly go some way to addressing two of Newcastle’s biggest problems so far this season, which is goals at both ends of the pitch. They have conceded the second-most in the Premier League with 43, and have scored the fourth-fewest in the division with just 21.

News of their interest was relayed to fans by @NUFC360 for them to react to, where fans gravitated towards the Nketiah claim – and it’s fair to say they weren’t filled with much excitement at the prospect of him moving to St. James’ Park:

“Very mediocre player. Arsenal are good at getting good money for average players, like Willock and Iwobi”

“I don’t rate him at all sorry”
“Please no !”
“Championship player”
“Nketiah you are joking me”
“This is definitely not the answer to our striker issues. He can’t even get a sniff in a shot shy arsenal team. Very underwhelming”

Do Newcastle need another striker?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

There’s not a lot of time left until the end of the window, so now it’s just a case of working as hard as they can to make sure that deals get finalised before the window shuts on Monday night. Although, judging by the responses of these fans, you’d imagine they’d rather this one didn’t go through at all.
