Newcastle United fans may not have had a game to get excited for this weekend, but with the transfer window being open there’s plenty to keep them occupied. On top of this, they received a huge boost in their aim to retain Premier League status.

Newcastle United can now leapfrog a relegation rival in their next league fixture if they secure the win, something that wasn’t looking likely for a while.

It looked like Watford were on their way to frustrating Spurs to gain a vital and unlikely point on Saturday, but then Davinson Sanchez’s last gasp winner meant that Watford gained nothing from the game.

The result now means with a win, Newcastle can jump Watford when the sides meet in the Magpies’ next league fixture. That would be a huge step in the right direction for Eddie Howe’s side.

Can you name who scored the most league goals for Newcastle United in years gone by? Let's see if you can starting with 2020/21

While this is a huge boost for the Toon Army, it will mean absolutely nothing if they’re unable to beat Watford in their next Premier League fixture.

But, for as long as the teams around them keep dropping points, it will continue to be a boost to Newcastle’s survival chances.
