Newcastle United’s transfer window gets crazier, just when you thought it couldn’t. They are now in the running to sign Ousmane Dembele, a 2018 World Cup winner with France who has no future at Barcelona after contract talks broke down.

This has led to them opting to sell him this window rather than lose him for nothing come the summer. According to Marca, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are in the running to secure his signature.

He signed for the Catalan giants for an eye-watering £135.5 million and was given a 400 million euros release clause. It hasn’t worked out with Barca ready to cut their ties with the Frenchman.

What the Newcastle fans said

“I’d love it if we pulled off a mental signing like this. Would remind me of the Tino transfer in many ways. Let’s do it!!! #NUFC.” @AdamBeckett09

“I just like that NUFC are now in legit conversations with superstars. I don’t care if we land all or even any of them rn but just to think, a year ago we were lucky to spend anything.” @justManke_it

“If he doesn’t get injured then sure. He’s better than most that we have but that’s no use if he can’t play.” @TheMokPope

“Definitely a match winner and we need more of them.” @IchibanKasuga89

“Am I dreaming, being mentioned in signing players like Dembele? #NUFC.” @CryptoJoHo1

“Sheeeeesh!” @jj_nufc

In terms of profile, it’ll be huge for Newcastle to sign him. Neymar’s PSG switch is the only transfer that eclipses his Barca fee. He will also be adding a World Cup winning medal to the dressing room among major Spanish and German honours.

Starting with an easy one, how much did Joelinton cost Newcastle when he swapped Hoffenheim for Tyneside?

The major worry with the forward is his injury record. He has missed huge amounts of games for Barcelona, including some lengthy hamstring absences. Should he sign for the Magpies, he’ll need to put that behind him quickly if he is to keep them up with his talent.

He has 53 goals and 51 assists in his 208 career appearances, so can clearly be a force in attack.
