Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has provided some details regarding Newcastle United and their pursuit of Bruno Guimarães.

Having been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks, the Brazilian has more recently been at the centre of speculation surrounding a potential move to Newcastle United, with reports claiming that the Magpies have made an offer of around £33.5m for the midfielder.

However, things recently took a bit of a peculiar turn, when his current club, Lyon, released a statement in which they denied the suggestion that a fee had been agreed for his services.

Can you name who scored the most league goals for Newcastle United in years gone by? Let's see if you can starting with 2020/21

Speaking on the latest edition of Sky Sports News’ The Transfer Show after Lyon’s claims, Sheth discussed what the latest was with regards to the deal, and stated that despite the setback of Lyon’s public statement, the deal is still a possibility before the window closes.

He said: “I’m not saying that he’s going to sign for Newcastle United, but there is definitely an interest there. And this deal is by no means out of the question. Newcastle United do want him, they know that they can do the deal.

“But since that statement came out from Lyon, the source that told me it’s interest only, has come back to me and said the bid has now gone in. We’ve tried to get in touch with the two clubs – silence so far.

“So there’s been no confirmation whether that bid has officially gone in or not, that’s just come from one source.”

Judging by Sheth’s comments, the deal still has a decent chance of going through and Newcastle seem confident of making it happen if they have indeed submitted a bid for him. You just have to hope that this hasn’t come around too late for a deal to be done in time, considering that the window is set to close on Monday night.

Because the last thing that Newcastle need is to focus on a deal like this and put all their cards on the table, only to end up missing out because the deal couldn’t be completed before the window slammed shut.

So it will certainly be an interesting one to keep track of, and one that could end up going down right to the wire.
