Newcastle United have spoken with Aaron Ramsey’s camp over a potential January transfer, according to Dean Jones, who was speaking on the latest episode of Touchline Talk.

It is now expected that the Welshman will leave Juventus this month with just 18 months remaining on his deal with the Old Lady, having spent over two years in Turin.

Would Ramsey be a good signing for NUFC?

The 31-year-old has been linked with a potential return to England having left Arsenal for the Italian giants, and Burnley have been credited with an early approach – but it’s believed he is looking for a better opportunity.

It has been a couple of difficult years for Ramsey with Juventus, with the large majority of his game time coming from the substitutes’ bench and in a Wales shirt, where he has racked up 71 caps in total (via Transfermarkt).

Having played just 98 minutes in Serie A this season, Jones had the following to say on the possibility of Ramsey switching Juventus’ black and white stripes for the Toon’s:

“It’s a big week for Aaron Ramsey, because as I understand it, his agents are working on finding him a new club in England.

“Newcastle were always at the front of the queue, because even before this month, they were using intermediaries to kind of put forward a proposal on a personal level as to what they would be able to offer him.

“As I understand it again, it would be a similar kind of deal to what Kieran Trippier’s just landing at Newcastle, so I wouldn’t completely rule it out.”

TIF Thoughts on Aaron Ramsey to NUFC…

Ramsey’s 2021/22 campaign has been marred by injuries so far, with the Welshman having sat out of league action since September.

So we think it would certainly be a big risk to sign the 31-year-old if Eddie Howe was to expect him to arrive at some point this month and make an immediate impact on the pitch as the Magpies aim to avoid relegation.

However, alongside the signing of Kieran Trippier, the notion of a player of Ramsey’s calibre joining the Tyneside club over his other proposals could have an influence on other potential acquisitions over the course of the month.
