Luke Edwards has been speaking on the BBC’s Transfer Gossip Daily podcast about links suggesting Newcastle United could move for Benoit Badiashile.
It had been reported that Newcastle were looking to sign Monaco’s 20-year-old defender, however, he has picked up an injury which is expected to keep him out for around six weeks, although local journalists have seemingly still not ruled out a January move or revisiting it in the summer.
Will Howe keep Newcastle up?
Badiashile has featured 12 times in Ligue 1 this season, and at such a young age, that should highlight why the Magpies are wanting to sign him as he could be a player for both now and the future.
Despite the true extent of Badiashile’s injury remaining unclear, Edwards spoke on the possibility of Newcastle bringing him to Tyneside this month.
He said: “The young lad at Monaco – I think that’s probably got some legs in it, it’s plausible. Newcastle definitely, definitely, definitely want a centre-back.”
TIF Thoughts on Badiashile…
With Badiashile now set for a prolonged period of time on the sidelines, it could be a deal that Newcastle revisit in a couple of weeks nearer the end of this transfer window if his recovery goes better than some expect.
It has been a disappointing week thus far for Newcastle as they have halted their pursuit of number-one target Sven Botman and have been dealt this cruel blow to Badiashile, so it remains to be seen where they turn to for reinforcements now.
