A whole host of Newcastle United fans were left ecstatic on Twitter with Lee Ryder’s Gabriel Barbosa transfer update.

The Magpies may well have already been targeting a striker in January to provide some adequate backup to Callum Wilson, but when the number nine limped off in their draw against Manchester United, that need for a new striker will have leapt up the transfer priority list.

Do Newcastle need to sign a striker?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

While looking for reinforcements within the Premier League could be more difficult with clubs not wanting to strengthen a potential rival, Newcastle could look further afield, and Lee Ryder has claimed that according to those close to the player, linked striker Barbosa ‘likes’ the idea of playing on Tyneside, especially with fellow countryman Joelinton.

A lot of Newcastle fans are delighted on Twitter with Ryder’s update.

What have these Newcastle fans been saying?

“YES YES YES”

@georgewrightttt

“Who wouldn’t want to play with Joelinton?”

@rosscn_

“Would love this”

@Owenhope455

“He’s a beast . Strong very strong”

@white_vision

“We’ll have Neymar begging outside st janes for a trial in the summer shinton is HUGE”

@JS5795

“A lot of players want to join us. We need to get the deals done and we will be a force to be reckoned with second half of the season”

@ToonBlackWhite

“Agent J7”

@SAMorfett

If Barbosa was to come in on loan with just an option to buy, then it could be a rather low-risk move for the Magpies, but with his record in European football standing at two goals in 15 appearances, any permanent move may be too much of a gamble, especially with the club’s precarious league position.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?
