Jordan Cronin has been speaking on the Loaded HQ YouTube channel about the links between Newcastle United and Odion Ighalo.
It seems very clear that Newcastle United will be looking to sign a striker in January as Callum Wilson is seemingly going to be out for several months after limping off earlier this week against Manchester United.
Should Newcastle sign Dembele?
Newcastle only have Dwight Gayle who is seen as a natural striker and even he didn’t replace Wilson on Monday evening, which shows how little Eddie Howe must rate the striker, and Sky Sports has now reported that the richest club in the Premier League have Ighalo on their shortlist.
Cronin has discussed this latest transfer claim.
“I’ve heard nothing on Ighalo, to be honest. If he was your only striker signing, then that would be a big worry.”
TIF Thoughts on links to Ighalo…
The Nigerian striker spent 12 months on loan at Manchester United recently and managed to score five goals in 23 appearances across all competitions, but failed to feature a lot during the final few months of his time at Old Trafford, potentially pointing to the fact that he wasn’t up to the required standard.
Ighalo has been spending a lot of his time out in China after leaving the Premier League and Watford in 2017 with an impressive goalscoring record, but if Newcastle are pinning their survival hopes on a striker with little top-flight experience in England and hasn’t been a consistent starter in the league for years, it could definitely spell trouble and desperation.
