Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel about one position Newcastle United will keep trying to improve.

Despite seeing several bids knocked back for the likes of Sven Botman and Diego Carlos, Newcastle and PIF are seemingly showing no signs of slowing down their attempt to improve Eddie Howe’s squad, having recently launched bids for both Jesse Lingard and Duvan Zapata.

Will Eddie Howe keep Newcastle up?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

With the latter two being approached by Newcastle, it appears that they are not at all happy with their creative options going forward, which should come as no surprise as they currently rank fourth-bottom when it comes to goal-creating actions per 90 minutes (via FBRef).

Romano has revealed that Newcastle indeed want to sign a creative midfielder this month.

He said: “They will go for a striker and I would keep an eye until the last day also on a creative midfielder and see what happens with potential opportunities. We mentioned Lingard, let’s see what happens with [Donny] Van de Beek – they will go for a creative player.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s need for creative reinforcements…

In terms of strikers, Eddie Howe can call upon Callum Wilson (when fit) as well as Chris Wood – two forwards who have proven themselves to be Premier League quality, but with the former having netted six goals this season from just nine shots on target, it highlights a clear need to improve the amount and quality of service going into their attackers.

Someone such as Lingard could potentially turn Newcastle’s season around if he can have a similar impact to the one he had during his loan spell last season with West Ham United, while also taking some pressure off of their defence if they can manage to provide the difference in tight games.
