Journalist Fabrizio Romano has been talking about Jude Bellingham and a potential move to Liverpool at some point in the future.

The 18-year-old has been very impressive since his move to Borussia Dortmund in 2020, scoring seven goals and adding 13 assists during his 70 appearances for the German outfit.

Having now established himself as a regular member of the England squad, his stock is also on the rise in the footballing world.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to see that Liverpool are reportedly interested in bringing him back to English football, with The Mirror claiming a few weeks ago that Reds boss Jürgen Klopp “has not been put off by Bellingham’s price, with his old club likely to ask for £90m to triple their investment”.

However, speaking in an interview on the Anfield Watch YouTube channel, Romano explained why bringing him to the club might be difficult for them, laying out issues both with the club that he plays for, as well as the player himself.

Do you know how many points Liverpool gain in these seasons? Let's start of with 2020/21

Romano said: “I think for Bellingham, it will be super difficult to move in summer 2022 – in particular, if Erling Haaland will leave Dortmund in 2022. I don’t see Borussia Dortmund letting him leave in the same summer.

“They always have a strategy, and it was Sancho in 2021, Haaland in 2022. And they will try to force him to stay, but I think it’s going to be difficult. And then maybe Bellingham in the coming years.

“On the player’s side, I’m told that he’s not desperate to leave. He’s a very smart guy, super professional, he’s happy with Borussia Dortmund, he’s always playing. And he knows that moving to England can be also a lot of pressure for him as [one of] the biggest talents and English talents in this moment and one of the biggest talents in the world.

“And so this is why at the moment, the boy is absolutely happy with Borussia Dortmund and I think it’s going to be difficult to see him leaving the club in January.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments about Jude Bellingham and Liverpool…

Do Liverpool need Bellingham?

Yes

Yes

No

No

As Romano points out, given Dortmund’s transfer strategy, it does seem rather difficult to see how the German side would allow Bellingham to leave at some point soon, especially if he keeps producing at the rate that he has been for them and playing at such a level that he is earning praise from teammates like Haaland.

So whilst Liverpool might be interested in signing him, they might be better off focusing their attention elsewhere, because it seems unlikely that they are going to be able to get him until at least the summer of 2023, if Romano’s projections are correct.

If they are willing to spend £90m on him, then it’s clear they have the money to spend, but they would be better focusing it on someone else instead that can make an immediate impact on the side this season as they look to chase down Manchester City in the title race.
