Phil Hay has been speaking about where contract talks are at between Leeds United and Raphinha.

Leeds’ maverick Brazilian winger has proven himself to be one of the best signings in recent years, not just for the club, but potentially in the Premier League, as he cost just £17 million and has already returned 14 goals and 11 assists in the top flight.

However, his level of performances have not gone unnoticed, with his agent Deco telling Globo Esporte that Liverpool hold an interest in the winger, which has led to Leeds opening talks with him over a new contract.

Will Raphinha sign a new contract at Leeds?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Speaking on The Phil Hay Show, the Leeds United journalist dropped an update on Raphinha’s contract situation.

He said: “It does seem to be going well, that – and I think that will happen. He’s actually on quite a low wage comparatively and by Premier League standards.

“He was not an expensive signing when he came in – the fee was £17 million, but in the context of the Premier League, it’s not huge these days. And his wage is by no means the highest at Elland Road, so I do think that will happen.”

TIF Thoughts on Raphinha potentially signing a new deal at Leeds United…

It will be of no surprise that clubs such as Liverpool and Bayern Munich have been credited with an interest in Raphinha as his stats have been scintillating this season, having completed the third-most dribbles in the league. And they’re not dribbles running down blind alleys, either – as he ranks inside the top eight for successful dribbles leading to a shot on goal (as per FBRef).

However, Raphinha, alongside Kalvin Phillips, will be a player that Leeds are desperate to keep, as since he’s arrived, the winger has been their most creative player. Last season he finished with the most assists and it’s the same story this campaign, so if they lost him, it would be one of the biggest blows that could be dealt to their club.
