It was a day to forget for Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United fans as they fell to a sorry 1-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United, a team with only one win all season under their belts prior to kick off.

The game was settled in the second half, with Jonjo Shelvey converting from a free-kick where Illan Meslier didn’t paint himself in any glory, letting the ball straight through him.

On top of an incredibly frustrating day on the pitch, Bielsa managed to irk supporters off it. His post-match comments were relayed to the fans on Twitter via Phil Hay, with them quick to slam the gaffer.

What the Leeds fans said

“Oh please, any side does it in that position. Why didn’t we score any of our chances? Why didn’t Joffy come on at HT?” @BeestonWhites

“Why ask him about time wasting?? Why not ask what in God’s name are players starting in front of players that are a lot better in their positions left on the bench?” @ScottTonyfitz11

“So what if they time wasted? They were desperate for points. We should have beat them & that’s that. Let’s not turn into a bunch of moaners.” @bielsaball28

“Did anyone ask him why we persisted in trying to put the ball on Dan James’ head? Smallest player on the pitch, woeful.” @acko51

“We still wouldn’t have scored.” @chorley75

“Meh – problem was we had 2 strikers in Joffy and Rodrigo. One came on too late and one was played in midfield.” @PHLUK87

It’s clear to see the fans are unhappy with Bielsa criticising the time wasting from Newcastle and the officials when they feel the blame is on him and the team rather than the officials.

Which Liverpool midfielder used to play for Leeds' academy?

The defeat brings Leeds back into the relegation fight, they only have a seven point cushion to the bottom which is still enough you’d feel given the form of sides below them, but they’ll certainly be looking over their shoulders again.
