Leeds United fans have been reacting to a question posed by Phil Hay regarding a potential deal for Brenden Aaronson.

Leeds have yet to make a deal so far in the January window for the senior side, although they are reportedly making inroads on one, and could well get it over the line before the window shuts next Monday.

Recent reports have linked Marcelo Bielsa’s men with American midfielder Aaronson, with The Athletic noting that he is “an incredibly active player known for his endurance, quickness and pressing ability”, so it’s easy to see why Bielsa might think that he could slot right in with his style of play at Elland Road and help push them away from the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Writing in an article for The Athletic this weekend in the wake of Leeds’ loss to Newcastle United, he wrote on a number of subjects, including the game itself, the possible transfer of Aaronson and the transfer window for Leeds in general.

He then relayed the article to Twitter alongside the question: “With defeat to Newcastle behind them and a week of the transfer window to go, do they push the boat out for him?” This generated a number of interesting responses from Leeds United fans when they saw it come across their timelines:

“I think defeat makes the need greater… still 13-15 points needed, the midfield is still a patchwork of compromises and everyone could use the lift fresh blood brings. Get it done, Vic”

“The proof was there to see I know we are short in midfield but it was clear to see not just Newcastle game but 16 games out of 21 with no out and out number 9 is just ridiculous we need a striker Phil”
“He seems the perfect fit for us”
“I can’t believe we’ve got one target. That’s it. One. We’ve had since Aug to prepare for this window, yet here we are, 8 days from the window closing, still chasing a player that’s not for sale. Why couldn’t we bid before the window opened to test their resolve? Infuriating.”
“They need to get him in this week else I genuinely fear for us come May”
“We can only hope!”
“I have never known such a slow board in the transfer window tbh”

With just a week to go until the window closes, it should be an interesting one to keep an eye on to see if they can get it done, and hopefully it will be worth the wait if it is.
