Sky Sports commentator Rob Palmer has been speaking on the All Together Now podcast about what Everton could be getting from Sean Longstaff.

Everton are clearly looking to move quickly and effectively this transfer window having already completed deals for two full-backs in the form of Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson, both of whom could slot straight into the side.

Would Longstaff start for Everton?

This has then been followed up by a £1 million bid for Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff, who was handed his Premier League debut by Rafael Benitez at Newcastle United, but that offer was rejected quite quickly, although it’s been reported by the Daily Star that the midfielder is desperate for a move.

Palmer has spoken about what Everton could get from Sean Longstaff, who was also reportedly offered to the Toffees as a makeweight in a deal to take Lucas Digne off their hands.

He said: “I’ve seen quite a lot of Newcastle. I mean, he’s probably a Rafa-style player, he’s functional, he’s athletic, he fills a gap. He’s not an exceptional player – I don’t want to undersell him, I don’t want to oversell him.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton wanting Longstaff…

Immediately, it appears a strange one that Everton and Benitez are so desperate to land Longstaff, a midfielder who is set to be out of contract in the summer and has not been a regular starter this season for a Newcastle side who are second-bottom of the league.

The midfielder has featured a lot less under Eddie Howe, so it would be interesting to see whether or not he would get in ahead of the likes of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure, who have been regulars at Goodison Park whenever fit.
