Express Sport journalist Ryan Taylor has been speaking on his YouTube channel about Everton’s interest in Anwar El Ghazi.

Over the summer, Everton only managed to bring in three outfield signings, and two of them were wingers in the form of Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray, so bringing in yet another one while Anthony Gordon is performing well, would seem a strange decision from the outset.

Would El Ghazi be an upgrade at Everton?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Everton and Aston Villa have agreed on a fee for Lucas Digne, and that could trigger the Toffees going in for one of Villa’s squad players in the form of El Ghazi, but it is unclear as to where the Dutchman would fit in at Goodison Park.

Nevertheless, Taylor has claimed that Everton do indeed hold an interest in El Ghazi.

He said: “The situation with El Ghazi is: Everton are keen on signing him, but want to keep the negotiation separate to the Lucas Digne deal. Now, Everton are looking at a loan until the end of the season with a potential option to buy, whereas Villa would prefer a permanent sale and they’re asking for about £15 million, from what a source close to talks has told me.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton pursuing Anwar El Ghazi…

The Dutch winger enjoyed a very successful season last campaign in the Premier League, having netted 10 times in just 17 league starts, proving that when handed chances, he can produce what is required.

However, at Everton, Rafael Benitez currently has Gordon, Townsend, Gray and Alex Iwobi as wingers wanting to get regular first-team minutes, so it does not appear to make much sense to bring in El Ghazi – even if just on a temporary basis – unless he is planning on generating funds by selling one of his existing options either this month or in the summer.
