Chris Waugh has been speaking on the latest Pod on the Tyne episode about how he doesn’t expect Newcastle United to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Newcastle United are clearly going to be targeting a new striker this transfer as their top scorer this season and last campaign Callum Wilson is currently out injured and is set to see a specialist later this week to determine how long he will be out for.

Given the substantial wealth Newcastle now have behind them, certain players such as Dusan Vlahovic and Anthony Martial have been linked with a move, although the most outlandish one may well be long-term target Aubameyang who the Magpies were interested in before he moved to Arsenal.

Waugh has not ruled it out but would be surprised if Aubameyang turned up on Tyneside this month.

“I think this one is highly, highly unlikely is what I’m told but I’m not going to rule anything out because of the fact that given the situation Newcastle are in and just given the fact that they do have such wealth behind them. What I’m told is that they’re not going to be going for players like Aubameyang who are on absolutely crazy wages.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s interest in Aubameyang…

The Gabon international is currently out on international duty at the African Cup of Nations but has been caught up in yet more headlines as he’s been pictured partying out in Dubai ahead of the tournament and has ended up catching an illness and is ruled out for several days.

Aubameyang has recently been frozen out of the Arsenal side by Mikel Arteta for disciplinary issues off the pitch, so would the Magpies be willing to fork out for the player and also take on all the excess baggage which comes with him when they already have enough on their plate in terms of a relegation battle.
