Dharmesh Sheth has been speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast about the latest transfer target Aston Villa are closing in on.
Aston Villa have been one of the most intriguing clubs so far this transfer window, with the Villans managing to bring in Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, as well as French international Lucas Digne to add competition at left-back to Matt Targett.
Will Gerrard win silverware at Aston Villa?
It appears that Villa and Steven Gerrard are not just planning for the here and now, with Dundee United star Kerr Smith set to join the club and go into the club’s Under-23 side, having seen off competition from the likes of Crystal Palace.
Sheth has been speaking about Kerr’s imminent arrival.
“One for the future as well, Dundee United 17-year-old Kerr Smith – this deal is close and he’s likely to come in and be part of the Under-23 squad.”
TIF Thoughts on Villa’s transfer business…
It is very impressive that Villa, who were not so long ago very close to being relegated back into the Championship, are now able to attract a player of Coutinho’s quality.
Indeed, the club had not long received a record fee for former captain Jack Grealish, but the owners have not been shy to reinvest their cash in the playing squad, with Digne’s arrival taking their expenditure over £100m for this season alone.
However, what might be even more impressive and exciting is that they are not just planning a win-right-now scenario, as they are planning for the future, with the likes of Jacob Ramsey consistently featuring under Gerrard, while the imminent signing of Kerr shows a clear plan towards ensuring the club’s long-term success.
