Steven Gerrard’s presence at Aston Villa has been made clear from the get-go. A huge upturn in form sees them rank seventh in the league since his appointment, while some big names signing on the dotted line at Villa Park highlight his impact.

Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho have been the high-profile names he’s brought in, with more potentially on the horizon.

The next man reportedly on Gerrard’s radar is a three-time champion of Italy, Rodrigo Bentancur. According to journalist Dean Jones, the Uruguayan midfielder, currently of Juventus, is interested in switching the Old Lady for Gerrard’s Villa revolution.

Will Gerrard win silverware at Aston Villa?

No!

Jones was speaking on The Football Terrace’s The Done Deal Show on YouTube to discuss where the deal is currently: “I was told that Bentancur was finally approached [on Monday], his representatives were approached and Aston Villa are going to try and accelerate things from here.

“He is interested in the transfer, so one to look out for, for sure, and if Villa get him through the door as well, this is a massive statement of intent from Gerrard in his first big window.”

TIF Thoughts on Rodrigo Bentancur to Aston Villa…

It may have been a disappointing season for Juventus on the field, sitting just fifth in the league at the moment, but they are always title contenders in Serie A – this shows the reputation a signing like this carries.

Scott Hogan scored how many times in his poor stint at Villa?

The midfielder has played 19 of the 23 games in Serie A this season, so clearly is valued by the Old Lady. He only has one booking in those games, too – showing he is reliable with his discipline, a huge bonus for a midfielder!

He also featured in five of their six Champions League group games, so add that to Gerrard’s experience and Coutinho’s, and it is clear to see the massive steps forward Villa are making.
