West Ham United presenter Gonzo has been speaking on the Hammers Chat YouTube channel to discuss the club’s busy festive schedule.

The Hammers will be able to rest up over the weekend with their home game against Norwich City postponed due to the current outbreak of the virus across the league.

Will this break benefit West Ham?

Yes

Yes

No

No

This means David Moyes’ side will not take to the field again until next week as they travel to their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

However, unlike the Hammers, Spurs are scheduled to play on the weekend with a trip to Anfield on Sunday to face Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing Reds.

With Moyes’ side set to enjoy an extra number of days rest of their London rivals ahead of the cup clash, Gonzo discussed how he expects the schedule to benefit the Hammers:

(7:00) “I just think David Moyes is gonna be fully motivated for this and rather than him having to rest and think, you know, he might have to rest Declan Rice he might have to rest whoever, choose your player. Actually, hopefully, we go into the Tottenham game with the Tottenham game being there where he actually thinks actually I can play [Issa] Diop, I can play [Craig] Dawson, I can play Declan.

“And it’s not just play those players to actually have the full-backs there to have [Aaron] Cresswell back to have [Ben] Johnson back is going to be a massive, massive thing for us.”

“In fact, I would argue it’s exactly what we need. Because we’re in a bad run of form. And sometimes just when you know when things are going badly like that you just need to press the reset button don’t you?”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham’s break…

We agree with Gonzo’s comments as, unlike Spurs, Moyes’ side have played regularly over the course of the last few weeks and have suffered an injury blow to Kurt Zouma in that time.

In addition, barring the victory against Chelsea, the Hammers have struggled of late so this break has probably come at the best time to provide West Ham with a chance to evaluate what is not quite going right for them currently.

Although we do not think Tottenham’s game against Liverpool will not harm the Lilywhites as they look to shake off the cobwebs against Liverpool, a weekend off for West Ham should only benefit Moyes’ side going into a big cup clash.
