Former Everton midfielder Don Hutchinson has been speaking on the ESPN UK YouTube channel to discuss the future of Rafael Benitez at the Toffees.

The Spanish manager has come under huge pressure from the Everton fans in recent weeks with their recent form on the decline as they sit slumped in 14th spot of the Premier League table.

Everton’s recent poor form was capped off during the week with a dreadful defeat at home to their bitter rivals, Liverpool, leaving the Toffees without a win in the league since September.

As the Toffees sit slumped in the bottom half of table with little sign of a big turnaround on the cards, Hutchinson discussed a potential replacement for Benitez who has already proven himself this season.

(1:00) “How about choosing the right manager and going for longevity? That’s why I keep mentioning Graham Potter. You go to Graham Potter now and you say to Graham Potter, right, you’re going to have four years at this football club. And it doesn’t matter if we finished fourth bottom, but we want an identity, we want to see what you’re going to do improve the young players getting them closer to the first team without spending hundreds of millions.”

TIF Thoughts on Potter to Everton…

The notion of Potter being appointed the next Everton manager – in our opinion – would be a no brainer for all Everton fans when you consider the difference in league positions between the two sides.

Potter has made an impressive start to the campaign with the Seagulls which has them flying high in ninth spot and just a matter of points off the European spots.

However, we have concerns over a potential Everton approach given the upward trajectory of the Seagulls at the moment having solidified themselves as a Premier League side.

Another concern we have is the funds it would likely take to prise Potter away from the south coast given Potter put pen to paper on a bumper deal which has his contractual stay at the Amex until 2025.
