A lot of Sunderland fans flocked to Twitter to vent their frustrations with the latest injury news emerging following their Carabao Cup defeat on Tuesday night.

The Black Cats found themselves dumped out of the League Cup after their 5-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, and the disappointment was not left in north London.

It has been confirmed by Lee Johnson that the injury to their goalscorer Nathan Broadhead is expected to keep the 23-year-old out for a long period of time: “It’s a disaster. We are going to need help in January,” said the Sunderland boss.

Broadhead provided the Black Cats with a glimmer of hope in the first half after he halved Arsenal’s 2-0 lead, but the Everton loanee was taken off before the interval with a suspected hamstring injury.

What did these Sunderland fans have to say?

“Couldn’t be any worse news this…. Over to Kyril, this could be the difference between going up.”

“Genuinely gutted.”
“Forget 5-1. Worst result of the night for me.”
“Gutting”
“terrible news”
“We are going to need a lot of reinforcements in January, the core is there but we need a larger squad”

The news will come as a huge blow for the Black Cats, with the striker having proved a bright spark for the Wearside club this campaign with five goals in the league and two goals in his three League Cup appearances (via Transfermarkt).

Sunderland currently sit in third spot of the League One table and this update is clearly felt to be a big disappointment by these fans who feel this could have an effect on their promotion hopes.
