Sheffield Wednesday fans have been reacting to a report from journalist Alex Miller about one of their former players.

The news concerns Fernando Forestieri, who played for the club between 2015 and 2020, racking up 134 appearances, when he bagged 40 goals and 18 assists at Hillsborough before leaving the club having declined a contract as football was getting back underway again after the hiatus due to the pandemic.

Which frontman is a huge Wednesday fan?

Now though, he is without a club, as Italian side Udinese announced that they had terminated his contract by mutual consent.

The news was picked up by Miller for The Star before being relayed onto his Twitter page.

He tried to warn fans by saying “And before you ask, I very much doubt it” before whispers of a move back to Wednesday materialised, but that didn’t seem to do much good as supporters flocked to the tweet hoping to see him return to the club:

“DO IT.”

“Please Fernando I am begging you”
“In a heartbeat”
“Make it happen”
“Imagine the scenes when Fernando turns up to training on his bike next week”
“Omg Chansiri, do it!”

Whether or not he’ll be willing to make the move down to League One will be interesting to see, but if Edgar Davids can turn out for Barnet when they were in League Two, you can’t totally rule it out.
