Celtic podcaster Lawrence Connolly has given his thoughts on Karamoko Dembélé and his future at the club.

The youngster has been making headlines for years having first burst onto the scene at age 13 when he made his debut for the club’s Under-20 side, however, his future at the club is currently in doubt as his contract is up at the end of the season.

On top of that, he suffered a recent setback on his comeback from injury after picking up a fracture to his ankle during the club’s pre-season game against Bristol City in the summer.

Speaking on the A Celtic State of Mind podcast, Connolly discussed Dembele’s contract situation and expressed his desire for him to sign a new deal, noting that current Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou appeared to be a fan of his and that he hoped to see him play having been part of the Celtic family for so long.

This English Premier League winner almost moved to Celtic.

He said: “Five months left on his contract, I’m sure we’ve got another one in front of him. I know Lennon seemed to bomb him out and then Kennedy gave him a few games. In pre-season, Ange was obviously a fan of his, he was playing him. Hopefully he signs, because he’s a boy that we seem to have been hearing about forever.”

Would you start Dembele when he's back?

Despite having been part of the club setup for so long, playing time in the senior side has been somewhat limited, as he’s only managed to make eight appearances for the first XI. Given his presence in pre-season, it would appear as though he was on the cusp of making a significant breakthrough before he was injured.

So hopefully, Dembele will be back from injury soon in order to get those minutes and prove to the club that he deserves to be at Parkhead for that little bit longer.

Once the January window begins, he will be free to talk to foreign clubs over a free transfer this upcoming summer, but hopefully he does sign that contract as Connolly hints at, as it would be unfortunate for him to have his chances at Celtic Park essentially taken away from him before he was truly able to be given a chance.
