Image for Celtic: Fans left fuming at picture taken before St. Johnstone game

Celtic fans have been reacting to an image that emerged from before their recent game in the Scottish Premiership.

Ange Postecoglou’s side made the trip north to face St. Johnstone on Boxing Day, and to a ground in McDiarmid Park that has gone through some troubles recently, with their recent game against Ross County called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

And it appeared as though those troubles were still apparent before the game with Celtic, as an image of the pitch was posted by @HereCelts on social media ahead of the game, which showed that the surface did not look in tip-top shape, with a lot of the green pretty much worn away.

The picture certainly generated some interesting responses from the supporters online both before and after the game, many of whom couldn’t attend as a result of the new rules laid down by the Scottish government last week:

“How’s the pitch looking like that? The weather hasn’t been too bad of late. Their groundsman need sacked.”

“This is the argument for plastic pitches”
“That’s actually a disgrace”
“That pitch just screams “ACL””
“There’s no excuses for pitches like this in top flight football. I don’t care if it’s December that’s shocking.”
“That’s an embarrassment btw. Meant to be a professional football club and it looks like the local park”

Celtic eventually ran out 3-1 winners thanks to two goals from Liel Abada and one from Nir Bitton, so it didn’t cause them too many problems, but you can certainly understand where the supporters’ concern was coming from based on the image.
