A large number of Celtic fans have flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on the latest transfer claim to emerge ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Sport Bild (via Sport Witness), the Parkhead side are showing an interest in Union Berlin left-back Niko Giesselmann, with the German’s contract winding to a conclusion.

The 30-year-old defender has just a matter of months remaining on his current deal with the high-flying Bundesliga club before becoming a free agent in the summer.

Despite having scored 41 goals over his career, Celtic fans flooded to Twitter as the transfer claim was relayed, and it seemed not all were impressed by the rumour.

What did these Celtic fans have to say?

“Nah. No idea how long a player of his age could have left.”

“This the new Marvin Compper”
“2nd player we’ve been linked with from the German league in 2 weeks Ange obviously thinks it’s a market he could do well in”
“No thanks”
“5 left backs…”
“A 30 year old? Definitely not happening.”

With Urs Fischer’s side soaring in the German top-flight, Giesselmann has played a big role in their success, with 14 league appearances this season in which he has been able to grab four goals and provide three assists (via Transfermarkt).

However, it seems the German’s age could be a big factor for some of these fans, as the left-back would become just the fourth outfield player in the Celtic squad over the age of 30.
