Presenter Dave Azzopardi has been speaking on the Talking Wolves YouTube channel about how Ben Brereton Diaz could be a top signing for the club.

Wolves failed to splash a lot of cash over the summer, with only four new arrivals joining the club. One of them was Rayan Ait Nouri, who spent last season on loan, so was not necessarily a ‘new’ signing, but that does not appear to have impacted Bruno Lage’s first season in England as they currently sit impressively in 8th place.

With the January transfer window edging ever closer, Wolves may well be lining up some deals to give Lage extra firepower in the second half of the season, as well as to help cover some players such as Romain Saiss leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations in the near future.

Given that Wolves did not spend more than £10 million on a single player over the summer, their owners may be holding back a lot of investment given clubs are still suffering from playing games behind closed doors, so they could target Championship talents such as Brereton Diaz, who has netted 17 times in the league and is nearing the final stages of his contract.

Azzopardi would like to see Diaz arrive at Wolves and add some competition in the final third.

“He’s really hit the ground running this season for Blackburn Rovers. Still only 22 years of age, he seems to have been around for a number of years now, but he’s still very, very young.

“And in my opinion, could be the ideal player and ideal senior striker to possibly give a bit more competition to [Raul] Jimenez, but someone that is possibly still happy to maybe be second-string and second-choice.”

TIF Thoughts on Wolves potentially signing Ben Brereton Diaz…

It would certainly be a major blow for Blackburn Rovers to have lost Adam Armstrong over the summer, to then potentially lose Diaz to the Premier League in January, just as they’re pushing for the play-offs.

With Diaz still just 22 years old and someone who would be coming up from the Championship, he may be willing to play second-fiddle to Raul Jimenez, who is and has been the undisputed number-one striker ever since he arrived at Molineux, while Wolves would likely not lose out on much quality, as Brereton Diaz is currently on 17 goals, so could be a suitable deputy.
