Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee has been speaking about the Hammers’ interest in Lloyd Kelly.

West Ham United may well be looking to be active in the January transfer window, especially when it comes to defensive reinforcements, as they’re suffering somewhat of an injury crisis within the backline as Kurt Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell are all unable for selection.

Will West Ham make the top four?

Yes!

No!

This has then led to The Telegraph claiming that West Ham are interested in Bournemouth defender Kelly, although it would certainly not be a straightforward deal with the Cherries sitting top of the Championship, so they be considered unwilling to lose a starter halfway through the season, while Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest.

Ex has confirmed that West Ham do indeed hold an interest in the Championship defender.

“The Telegraph reported a link to Bournemouth centre-back and captain Lloyd Kelly, who is 5’11”, left-sided, which is obviously what we’re looking for, and quite a highly rated defender in the Championship. He is someone that we’re interested in, definitely.

“But the chances of us being able to get him are, I would say, unlikely. Bournemouth are going for direct promotion to the Premier League, they’re in a decent financial state.

“If they sell [Kelly] in January, it’s not going to be a good move for them.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham’s interest in Kelly…

It could potentially be a smart piece of business if West Ham could tempt away the 23-year-old, who is currently on course to lead the club back into the Premier League, but Bournemouth would surely demand a huge premium for him to leave and even then, would potentially turn down a mammoth bid to ensure they have the best chance of promotion after failing in the play-offs last season.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

Kelly cost Bournemouth £13 million back in 2019 and considering he is now a lot more experienced and captained the Championship leaders for the majority of the campaign, being English also could add value onto any transfer (especially in January), so it would surely not be a cheap signing.
