Former Premier League ace Alan Shearer has been speaking on the latest episode of Match of the Day to hail the performance of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp at the weekend.

The Lilywhites secured their fourth win in the Premier League under Antonio Conte on Sunday, which saw them maintain their pressure on the top four spots.

Have you been impressed with Skipp?

But it was 21-year-old Skipp who caught Shearer’s eye in the convincing victory over Crystal Palace, which saw the midfielder make his 15th appearance in the league this season.

Having spent last season out on loan with Norwich City in the Championship, Skipp has returned to north London and earned himself a regular spot in the Spurs starting XI.

And Shearer hailed the youngster for his work rate and bravery on the ball as he played all 90 minutes of the game against the south London side.

He said: “He’s [Conte] certainly got them very well organised and he’s made a big difference to Lucas Moura and also Oliver Skipp, I thought, who was excellent.

“There’s Skipp there, as I said, I thought he was excellent – really brave on the ball and started so many good moves off.”

TIF Thoughts on Skipp under Conte…

Skipp, who is valued at £18 million (as per Transfermarkt), established himself this season even before Conte’s arrival while under Nuno Espirito Santo, however, it is apparent the Italian also has trust in the youngster, who has featured prominently despite being out through illness (via Transfermarkt).

Something which is clear to see is that Conte will give opportunities to other members of the squad, with Harry Winks also featuring a fair bit in Conte’s short tenure.

But we feel this could benefit Skipp to continue his progression if there is constant pressure for the 21-year-old to prove himself as the starting midfielder.

Conte has already spoken of his excitement in managing Skipp and how he feels he can develop his game, so we are intrigued to see if the youngster could work his way into England’s plans in the near future.
