Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has been speaking on his latest YouTube video to discuss the latest on Joe Rodon’s future.

Spurs signed the Welshman in the summer of 2020 from Swansea City, however, the youngster has not exactly been given much of an opportunity to shine in north London.

What should Spurs do with Rodon?

Since arriving over a year ago, the centre-back has only been able to make 20 appearances for the Lilywhites, with six of them coming this season, including one in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

Rodon did get some time on the pitch last week in the Europa Conference League against NS Mura, however, with the Lilywhites trailing, Rodon was taken off after 54 minutes.

Given the 24-year-old’s lack of game time, Gold discussed what the near future may hold for the Welshman, with no game time as of yet for Rodon under Conte in the Premier League.

“I’m told that he’s getting pretty frustrated now. And unless the situation changes, he’d be open to a loan in January just to get some game time, really. But again, that depends on whether Tottenham can bring in another centre-back and also how serious [Cristian] Romero’s injury proves to be.

“Rodon really does deserve to be playing in the Premier [League]. I think Brighton like him a lot, whether Brighton look to bring him in – I think four/five months at a team like Brighton or any team, really, I’d say he needs Premier League now; [it] would be big.”

TIF Thoughts on Rodon’s future…

When Rodon arrived at Spurs, we think he wouldn’t have expected to play a huge number of games considering the experience among the Spurs defence at the time in Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and even Davinson Sanchez.

However, it quickly became apparent Spurs’ defence was a big part of their struggles to secure a spot in the top four of the table with just 12 clean sheets over the course of the campaign – yet still, Rodon did not feature.

Even this season, Rodon has barely featured in the league despite Spurs only keeping one league clean sheet since the opening three games of the campaign (via Transfermarkt).

With this, we think it is critical for Rodon’s development to leave in January if he is not going to play frequently under Conte, because we do not feel he is not playing enough for a player of his age and experience to develop.
