On a day to forget for Newcastle United as they were thumped 4-0 at Leicester City, Joe Willock was singled out for criticism by numerous Magpies fans.

Youri Tielemans’ brace, along with goals from Patson Daka and James Maddison, put Eddie Howe’s men to the sword, leaving the Tynesiders bruised as they aim to escape the Premier League relegation zone.

Should Newcastle sign Lingard?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Although he was incredibly impressive last season on loan, Willock is failing to live up to expectations this term. In his 14 Premier League appearances for Newcastle in 2020/21, he netted eight goals. He impressed that much that the Magpies made the move permanent in the summer.

However, this season he has failed to get involved in the final third, yet to register a goal or assist in 15 appearances.

What these Newcastle fans said

“What does Willock actually do apart from give the ball away constantly?” @Eddy503Gosling

“Willock, can’t defend, pass the ball or press. I believe Hayden will bring better sustainability to our midfield.” @hrctrvl360

“Dreadful performance, defence shocking as always and the run doesn’t get any easier. Drop Willock and Lascelles, both awful.” @Aaron_Kainth

“Willock just can’t find form and has to be replaced in January.” @Fuji720x

“Leave Lascelles and Willock in Leicester.” @KrissNufc12

“What has happened to Willock man? Absolutely shocking.” @arronlowes98

It wasn’t just Willock’s “awful” lack of end product which frustrated many of the Toon Army today. As per SofaScore, he lost eight of his 11 duels (73%), was dribbled past once and lost possession 13 times. Meanwhile, Lee Ryder gave him a lowly four in his Chronicle Live player ratings, admitting that “it’s just not happening for him this season”.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

With a trip to Anfield on the cards next and then both Manchester clubs coming to St James’ Park, it doesn’t promise to gets much better for Howe. He certainly needs more from the likes of Willock in forthcoming fixtures.

In other news: some Newcastle fans also slammed this man’s performance today
