A large number of Newcastle United fans have blasted the performance of their captain, Jamaal Lascelles, for his performance in their game at St. James’ Park on Sunday.

The Toon captain lead his side out on Sunday in the game against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, however, it was an afternoon to forget for the Newcastle defence.

Should Lascelles be stripped of the captaincy?

And the 28-year-old certainly had a role to play in two of City’s goals as he stood off Joao Cancelo for the second and then played Riyad Mahrez onside for the third.

With the Tyneside club suffering their 10th defeat of the Premier League campaign, these fans flocked to Twitter to voice their frustrations with the club captain.

What did these Newcastle fans have to say?

“Both goals so avoidable. Clark and Lascelles should be nowhere near a PL squad, awful”

“They’re pub standard players, robbing a living”
“Acres of space for Jesus by Lascelles “Go on son have a shot” Absolutely abysmal”
“Lascelles again. Hopeless”
“Lascelles has to be one of the worst defender ive seen”
“That’s Lascelles done for me. Needs to stripped of captaincy and dropped for good”
“Lascelles needs to go! He’s not a leader and only just about championship level.”

Lascelles has played in the large majority of the Toon’s Premier League games this season with just a handful of absences to his name, including a suspension due to a build-up of yellow cards (via Transfermarkt).

Eddie Howe’s side holds the worst defensive record in the league this season having conceded 40 goals already this term and it’s apparent these fans do not feel he has done much to help their cause.
