Some Newcastle United fans have been reacting to an image that has emerged of Joelinton following their recent game in the Premier League.

A few weeks ago, if you’d have looked at the Brazilian’s numbers whilst at Newcastle, you’d be able to make a fairly convincing argument that he’s been a flop up on Tyneside. Having spent a club-record £40m on him in 2019, 11 goals and eight assists during his time at the club is not the kind of return you’d have been looking for.

However, since the appointment of Eddie Howe and his move into a central midfield role, he has become a completely different player, and Newcastle fans are loving it.

Which iconic boxer is a reported Newcastle fan?

His impact was felt all over the pitch, as a graphic released by the club on Twitter showed that he was really getting into the action both in attack and defence, whilst also pointing out he had the most ball recoveries, most key passes and most interceptions during their 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

So when Newcastle United fans saw the graphic and stats appear on their timelines, they jumped at the chance to show how appreciative they are of Joelinton and the effort he put in not just against the Red Devils, but across the past few weeks in general:

“The change in him since Eddie Howe came in is unbelievable!!!”

“Outmuscled everyone on the pitch, such a class performance tonight”
“What an absolute privilege it was to watch the best number 7 in the league tonight”
“Make him captain”
“Absolute Animal!”
“Box to box masterclass”
“Joelinton now known as the BEAST OF THE TOON.”

If Howe can have this much of an impact on the rest of the squad as he has had with Joelinton, then they might just stand a chance of staying in the division after all.
