Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel about Newcastle United’s interest in Ousmane Dembele.
The 24-year old winger has struggled with injuries in the last couple of seasons, but that has not stopped him from being linked with a move away to Newcastle United, even though they sit rock bottom of the Premier League.

Dembele’s current contract is set to run out in 2022, so this could be the last chance for Barcelona to get some money for the winger, and with the Magpies’ new owners having a load of money behind them, they could be willing to offer them what they want.
Romano has revealed Newcastle do indeed hold an interest in Dembele.
“He wants a super big deal, a super big new contract and this is why Newcastle is enquiring about him. I say ‘enquiring’ because they have not made any official proposal yet because they have no director of football.
“So to go into this process, to do an official proposal, they will need something else. They have some intermediary working around the club, that is speaking with people close to Dembele, so it’s true that they have an interest.”

It would certainly prove to be one of the most astonishing coups in the transfer market for some time if the Barcelona winger swapped Champions League football and playing for the Catalan giants for Tyneside and a relegation battle.
Dembele has thus far refused to sign a new contract at Barcelona as he wants to be a free agent, according to Sport.
This could potentially hand Newcastle a boost in their attempts to sign the winger, but given their position in the Premier League, they may not be able to afford the luxury of shelling out a lot of money on a transfer fee and wage for someone who could well pick up a couple of injuries until the end of the season and not be much help in the battle against the drop.
