Speaking on the latest edition of Touchline Talk, journalist Dean Jones has touched on Newcastle United’s interest in Nathan Ake.

Just weeks from the January transfer window, the Toon remain deep in the relegation zone after winning only one of their 15 games in the Premier League this campaign.

However, next month will provide Eddie Howe with his first opportunity to implement his stamp on the Newcastle side having joined just over a month ago.

And reports have emerged suggesting the 44-year-old could be looking to acquire the services of one of his centre-backs from his days at Bournemouth in the form of Nathan Ake.

Discussing the latest news on the Toon ahead of next month’s window, Jones had the following to say on his understanding regarding their stance on Ake:

“Nathan Ake is somebody that I know for a fact that Eddie Howe is very keen on, has worked with before and would love to join. There’s going to be competition to sign Nathan Ake, so that will be tricky.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle United’s interest in Ake…

There is little debate about Newcastle’s struggles in defence this season, and that was highlighted by the calamitous defending from Ciaran Clark just the other week against Norwich City.

And we think Ake could well be a player who could come in over January and slot straight into Howe’s defence having gained some experience at the top level with Manchester City.

It has not quite worked out for the Dutchman in Manchester, however, this could work to Newcastle’s advantage if the 26-year-old is looking to prove his worth, having only made five appearances in the league this season.
