George Caulkin has been speaking on Pod on the Tyne about Newcastle United’s owners’ thoughts on the Crouch review.

Newcastle United’s new majority owners are the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) and they have been widely criticised for entering the Premier League, especially because of the human rights, or lack of, back in their home country.

Will Newcastle be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

However, people from PIF have not been at the forefront of running the cub with Amanda Staveley ding all the interviews with the club and attending every match and she has spoken widely about what Newcastle deserve.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that the new owners are widely in favour of the Crouch review which looks to help revolutionise the game and ensure that the footballing pyramid is not lost and that the biggest clubs see some of their money trickle down to the smaller sides.

Caulkin has revealed how happy PCP Capital partners are about this government fan-led review.

(44:04) “The club haven’t said anything directly about this, but my understanding is that they’re, broadly in favour of the Crouch review, which is very heartening to me.

“The owners have talked from the start about fan engagement and that being a real and serious part of what they’re looking at, at the club and that remains the case.

“They’ve obviously had huge, huge decisions to work on and still have, as we approach January, but it’s very much part of what they want to do, and we will see movement on that in the new year, I would expect.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s owners and their stance on this review…

One of the leading points from this review is that Premier League clubs should pay a duty-style tax on any transfer fee which will see that money evenly split between teams in the divisions below them.

Given how wealthy Newcastle’s owners are, and the amount of stick they have come in for recently, to put their support behind this important review could help them deflect some abuse and show that they mean well to the footballing world and English football pyramid because with their wealth, pay a form of tax on transfer fees will likely not change their approach to dealings and aims.
