Many Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to express their frustration after the latest transfer links to emerge sees the Toon being linked with January moves for England quartet Jesse Lingard, Harry Winks, Ross Barkley and Kieran Trippier
What did these Newcastle fans make of the latest transfer news?
“Barkley is atrocious. He is so so wasteful. Everywhere he’s gone he’s been benched after 1 or 2 games because he doesn’t pass and shoots wasteful balls over and wide. We don’t need attacking mids. 4-5 defenders, 1 CDM and 1 -2 forwards is what we need to give Wilson support”
“Winks is terrible but it would be typical Newcastle to buy him”
“More overrateEnglishsh players we are down”
“International players won’t fancy the Championship. We might get them on loan till the end of the season with an option to buy if we say in EPL. I pray we come good by the way and I Trust Eddie Howe”
“Signing Englands B team now, won’t settle for less than the French squad”
“I can’t see any of those joining tbh”
With Jesse Lingard’s contract due to expire at Manchester United this summer, he could be available for bargain fee this January and having also been linked to West Ham, where he endured a successful loan spell last season, scoring nine goals and recording five assists in 16 appearences for David Moyes side in the second half of last campaign (via Transfermarkt).
Additionally, Winks and Barkley have also been linked with a move to the north east as they struggle for game time at clubs Tottenham and Chelsea respectively. Winks has played just 150 minutes for Tottenham this season, while Barkley has made just four league appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side so far this campaign, totalling just 120 minutes and reuglar game time in a Newcastle midfield that is in dire need of revitialising would further be a guarantee.
The pair would compete with Howe’s current midfield options Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock for a palce within the Magpies first choice XI if signed, while Atletico’s Kieran Trippier is a player who could be an incredibly astute acquisition, due to his vast Premier League experience with Burnley and Tottenham, for the Toon
