Sky Sports reporter Charlotte Marsh has praised Ralf Rangnick’s approach to Manchester United’s midweek game, as she tipped Mason Greenwood to potentially force his way into his next Premier League squad.
It’s been an improved spell for Manchester United under Rangnick, winning in the league last weekend before drawing in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
He made wholesale changes in midweek given United had already qualified for the Champions League knockout stages, giving plenty of young talent a chance. One youngster stood out in particular to Marsh after the Young Boys game, and heaped the praise on Greenwood.
Has David de Gea been Manchester United's best player this season?
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Premier League Preview podcast, she was full of praise for the young attacker and his performance. His ninth-minute goal ensured a point for Rangnick in his first European game in charge of the Red Devils.
Here’s what Marsh had to say: “Greenwood was really impressive. I think he’s probably one of the players that has given Rangnick something to think about for the weekend, and it’s not a surprise. The qualification was already secured, they were already going through; giving youngsters the experience of the Champions League – and it’s something Rangnick places a lot of emphasis on – it wasn’t a surprise to see that.”
TIF Thoughts on Mason Greenwood…
Greenwood has shown us all just how impressive he is, scoring five times already this campaign in the Premier League and Champions League – which is not bad for a 20-year-old.
When you consider the sub-par performances of Jadon Sancho, who only has two goals in 18 outings, it certainly provides Rangnick with something to ponder over. The potential in his squad with these young attackers, coupled with the fair amount of experience Marcus Rashford has, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo, it certainly provides an interesting dynamic for Rangnick with plenty of options at his disposal.
