Leeds United’s Boxing Day clash with Liverpool was postponed due to a virus outbreak, with now their game against Aston Villa also being postponed for the same reason.

Leeds fans are delighted with the news, with the extended break giving them more time to get players fit and ready for action in their already depleted squad.

It will also be a boost for the Villa, who are without Steven Gerrard for today’s game at home to Chelsea and then the clash with Leeds. So it appears a beneficial postponement for both sides, and a level playing field?

Leeds United journalist Phil Hay shared the news on his Twitter, with the Whites fans jubilant in the replies.

How the Leeds fans responded to the Villa news

“Meh. We expected it. Burnley looks massive now though.” @MOTweets1919

“What a shame. Love the Christmas games! Oh well, fresh start in Jan!” @lufcThommo

“Thank god for that.” @Lufcburny

“Fabulous news. Christmas is being kind to Leeds for once!” @markydh

“Hehe another boost.” @TheRetrospecti3

“Blessing in disguise tbh, gives us more time to get injured players back and regroup.” @Harrison81A

This could be the best thing to happen to Leeds all season who are really struggling. Still sitting in 16th place, they’ll be looking over their shoulder nervously. If games in hand for their rivals go against them then, then they could be in the relegation zone.

A short break can allow Marcelo Bielsa to get some more players back into contention to start. The Leeds squad is heavily depleted so getting numbers back will be key for them as they look to retain their Premier League status.
