Leeds United’s trip to Anfield on Boxing Day has been called off after a virus outbreak at the Yorkshire club, with many Whites supporters delighted by the announcement.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were due to take part in the lunchtime kick-off this Sunday, but due to cases within the Elland Road side, the match has been postponed.

The news will probably be music to the ears of both fans given the injury crisis at Leeds and the fixture congestion at Liverpool. Jordan Henderson had previously claimed player welfare wasn’t taken into consideration with the scheduling.

Could Bielsa be sacked by Leeds?

The game hasn’t been rescheduled yet, and Leeds will be hopeful that key players such as Patrick Bamford are back for when the game is eventually played, with the fixture being one of the toughest of the season for most clubs.

When journalist Phil Hay shared the news with supporters on his Twitter account, many flocked to the comments to convey their jubilation.

How the Leeds fans reacted…

“This will be the saving of the season for us. Another week or so to get players fit.”

@DanielMoorman

“Good, xmas is saved.”

@georgelufc

“Looks like we can all enjoy our Christmas Day again without an 8-0 defeat looming (hope everyone stays healthy)”

@RaphinhaSzn

While we’re sure the fans will be hoping all the affected players are able to return to full health very soon, it’s clear to see the delight from the Leeds faithful with the news, hoping this is the lucky break they need to turn their season around.

Who was Bielsa's first competitive game as Leeds manager against?

It has been a dismal campaign for Marcelo Bielsa’s men, who currently sit 16th in the league table, but games in hand for those below them could see Leeds drop into the bottom three. Therefore, it’s vital that the results on the field start picking up as soon as possible.
