Dave Prentice has been speaking on the Royal Blue podcast about how he believes Rafa Benitez should start Cenk Tosun this weekend.

The Toffees managed to bring in Salomon Rondon as a free agent over the summer to be a backup to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but due to the England international’s injury this season, Rondon has seen himself already start seven games in the league.

Should Everton sack Benitez?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Unfortunately for Benitez, Rondon hobbled off in their defeat to Liverpool and the Spaniard has confirmed that he will be assessed ahead of their Monday night match, but if he is ruled out then an out of favour striker in Tosun could be called upon.

The Turkey international has not started a game all season and spent the second half of last campaign out on loan with Besiktas, but this could be an unexpected chance to revive his Everton career.

Prentice believes that Benitez should hand Tosun a rare start against Arsenal.

(43:38) “So for me, Cenk Tosun I think has to be brought in from the cold, I know he got a couple of minutes last night and managed to miss control one with his first touch, but I can’t see any other alternatives, to be honest.

“Other than changing the shape entirely, and trying to do something completely and dramatically different, which I don’t think Benitez has shown any semblance of doing so far this season.”

TIF Thoughts on Tosun…

If Benitez did call upon their forgotten striker, who is valued at £2.7 million (as per Transfermarkt), then it really would be a symbol of how Everton’s season is going at the minute if they need someone who has started 24 league games since he joined in 2018 to help stop their eight-game winless run.

To kick off this quiz on Everton transfers, which player was the Toffees' club-record transfer fee paid on according to Transfermarkt?

The Toffees are certainly in a rut and moving closer to the relegation zone at an alarming rate and things don’t get any easier as they face Arsenal on Monday night, with the Gunners having only lost to Liverpool and Manchester United in their previous 11 league matches.
