Dan Cook has been speaking on the HLTCO podcast about Marc Guehi’s performances for Crystal Palace.

It has been an indifferent start to the season for Crystal Palace under Patrick Vieira given they have only lost four times in the league all season – although two of those defeats have come in the club’s last two league outings.

There have been several occasions this season that have seen them give up points near the end of games against teams such as Arsenal, Newcastle United, and most recently, Leeds United.

Will Palace finish in the top half?

Palace may have been better off if it wasn’t for Guehi’s mistakes this season, which has seen him commit a foul against the Magpies which stopped Christian Benteke from scoring a winner, while he also gave away a last-minute penalty in their most recent game.

Cook believes that Guehi’s mistakes have become too common and have severely cost Palace this season.

“Marc has cost us points, there’s no getting around it. The Newcastle game at Selhurst Park when Christian Benteke scored the header, it was a Marc Guehi foul that saw that ruled out via VAR; the game against West Ham away from home at the start of the season, he had a free header to win the game for us and he missed the target – and of course last night [Tuesday] against Leeds.”

TIF Thoughts on Guehi’sperformances…

Even if Guehi has turned up with some costly errors this season, it’s not like Vieira has a whole load of options at centre-back, with James Tomkins the only player who could come in and directly replace the young defender, as there was no other centre-back named on the bench in their most recent match.

Think you're the biggest Crystal Palace fan? Then who is the club's record signing?

Guehi currently boasts a 6.7/10 WhoScored rating while he’s managed to keep four clean sheets in the process. However, given this is his first full season as a regular in the Premier League, he may be afforded extra time to fix some of his costly mistakes, though he may have to learn quickly as the Eagles are slipping further towards the relegation zone with every passing poor result.
