West Bromwich Albion fans have been reacting to a claim from journalist Joseph Masi surrounding a potential bid for Daryl Dike.

Taking to Twitter, Masi claimed that the Baggies are ‘moving heaven and earth’ when it comes to signing the American forward during the upcoming January transfer window.

The 21-year-old made a huge impression in the Championship last season, scoring nine goals in 19 games during the regular season, helping Barnsley – then led by current Albion boss Valerien Ismael – reach the play-offs where they were eventually knocked out by losing finalists Swansea City, so it’s no surprise that Masi described the move as a ‘major coup’ if they pulled it off.

Do you know the record signing for these Championship sides? Let's see if you do, starting with Fulham

The Baggies certainly aren’t exactly struggling for goals right now, with 30 scored in their opening 23 games, but with four of the other top six clubs having scored more than them, it’s easy to see why they might want to add some more firepower in order to keep pace with them as they push for promotion.

This claim sparked some interesting responses from West Brom fans on social media when they came across it:

“We’re serious”

“He’s all we need…”
“OH MY DAYSSSSSSS”
“Fingers crossed , Merry Christmas Joseph”
“Really hope we pull this off”
“What an early Christmas present”

Will West Brom go up via the play-offs?

Given Dike’s past relationship with Ismael, you would imagine it gives West Brom an advantage when it comes to signing him in the January window, but whether they’ll be able to get the deal over the line will be a different matter.
