With the hectic but exciting January transfer window just around the corner, the rumours are gearing up for all clubs, with journalist Joe Masi giving his update on West Bromwich Albion’s likely strategy.

Masi was talking on the latest episode of Baggies Broadcast, where he was asked if it was possible Valerien Ismael will pursue more than one striker in the upcoming window.

The Baggies’ current top scorer, Karlan Grant, has nine goals to his name, while Callum Robinson is only on four in second place – so you can see why they could be looking for a more prolific outlet as their promotion bid continues.

However, Masi claimed it was more likely they would be in the market for one striker rather than two: “I personally think it’s all hands on deck for one as things stand, and hopefully that player will be a real significant addition – a player who will really, really make the difference.

Will West Brom earn promotion?

No!

“I’m not saying they’ll be our Mitrovic or Solanke, because that’s a hell of an ask. Who’s scored 22 goals and 17 goals in half a season? Someone who can maybe get 12, 10-12 goals [would be good enough].”

TIF Thoughts on WBA strategy…

Out of the top four teams, West Brom have the least goals scored, so the fact they’re in the market for a top striker is no surprise. Going off Masi’s claim, one main striker over two signings would make the most sense to compete with their rivals with quality over quantity.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has 22 goals in his 22 appearances in the league, with Dominic Solanke having 16 in 23.

The Baggies have long been linked with Daryl Dike, with Masi claiming Ismael’s side are strongly pursuing the American striker – so he seems like he could be the candidate they are looking for.

To kick off this quiz on West Bromwich Albion's 2019/20 season, how many points did the Baggies end the 2019/20 Championship campaign with?

Masi did go on to say that someone like Dike would fit the bill, so perhaps his signing could catapult West Brom back into the automatic promotion spots.
