Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel, journalist Jonny McFarlane has been discussing the latest in the Scottish club’s search to find a new manager.

Rangers’ previous boss departed Ibrox on Thursday as he brought an end to his three-year tenure with the club to take on a job in the Premier League with Aston Villa.

Should Rangers be looking for a short-term or long-term replacement?

One of the possibilities discussed on the YouTube show was the possibility of potentially bringing in a short-term appointment to see the Gers through until the end of the season.

And one of the names tipped for potentially coming under that bracket is the former Rangers player Neil McCann who played a total of 28 games for the Scottish side.

Discussing the possibility of bringing the 47-year-old who has recently stepped in as the interim manager of Inverness CT last season, McFarlane had the following to say.

(14:30) “I could see Neil McCann being involved in that because fiery personality, understands the club inside out, will be respected just because he carries that air.

“Neil McCann has got that whatever that is, as a footballer, Neil McCann has that as a guy, you know, that sort of charisma when they walk in a room. And he played very, very good football with Dundee.”

TIF Thoughts on Rangers’ manager search…

The Gers are currently sitting top of the league in the Scottish Premiership so this decision from Gerrard will bring concerns over potentially disrupting their title charge.

Regardless of whether Rangers look to bring in someone like Neil McCann on a short-term basis or someone more permanent, we feel the club has to act quickly to try and avoid any fall off in league form.

One of the benefits hiring someone like McCann could bring is the understanding around the club having already spent a number of years during his playing career with the Gers.
