Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has praised the club’s fans for immediately accepting him when he signed as manager.

The former Australia boss signed a 12-month rolling contract – this limited deal perhaps suggesting the club’s uncertainty over the long-term capabilities of their new man.

However, in the mind of Postecoglou, one group of people who have shown no doubt towards him are the Celtic faithful – even if they may have had to ‘Google’ him before he had been properly introduced.

While speaking in a YouTube interview with Open Goal, Postecoglou claimed that their support has ‘humbled’ him and is a ‘massive motivator’ for him to succeed in Scotland.

He said: “I’ve been so sort of humbled by their acceptance of me almost straight away. Let’s be fair, no one knew who I was before I got here. There’d be very few people who didn’t Google my name to see who I was.

“I think they backed me from day one and that’s been great for me. And it’s a massive motivator for me to bring success to this football club.

“Because when they’ve backed me when they don’t really know who I am, then if I can bring success to that group of people who’ve supported me, then that feeling’s going to be priceless for me.”

TIF Thoughts on Ange Postecoglou and Celtic…

It’s nice to see there is a great relationship blossoming between Postecoglou and the Celtic fanbase – as evidenced by his comments.

This is especially good news for the manager, as there hasn’t always been an amicable connection with some of the club’s managers, players and fans.

Indeed, while speaking about the occasionally hostile nature of things, former boss Neil Lennon once claimed: “We all get booed by our own fans.”

Fortunately, the current coach seems to have the majority of support on his side. No doubt, comments such as these wouldn’t have done the relationship any harm, either.
