Scottish football journalist Alison McConnell has claimed that Celtic must ‘take the moral high ground’ regarding current ticketing issues within the Scottish Premier League.

Last August, the Bhoys were being denied an allocation at Ibrox for the first Old Firm clash of the season. With the next derby match set to take place in the new year, the issue still seems to be apparent after fans were told there would be no away support at Celtic Park (via Daily Record).

While discussing the issue on The PLZ Football Show, McConnell claimed that the dispute was ‘pitiful’ and will ruin the spectacle of the occasion.

She explained what she thinks should happen, saying: “It’s pitiful and it’s inexcusable. It detracts from the game as a contest – particularly, I think, when you talk about the Celtic and Rangers game.

“I think it’s a far better spectacle when you have fans from both teams in at the ground. I think it’s diluted when you don’t have it.

“Celtic had an opportunity, I think, to take the moral high ground here. To come out and say: ‘Enough’s enough’.

“Let’s go back to some kind of normality, to some kind of division of tickets that allows supporters to come into the ground.”

TIF Thoughts on Celtic and the ticketing situation…

Celtic may well still feel aggrieved by their inability to send fans away to the most recent match against Rangers. What will further their case is the fact that they also happened to lose that match 1-0 – a goal by Filip Helander settled the affair.

As things heat up in the title race with the Bhoys now just four points and one place behind Steven Gerrard’s men at the of the league table, Celtic may not want to give their rivals any advantages when they next meet.

However, if both teams want to get back to a situation where fans can attend both home and away games, something will eventually have to give.

Perhaps it would be most wise to heed McConnell’s advice and get the issue resolved sooner rather than later.
