Wolves journalist Liam Keen has spoken about Hwang Hee-chan and his possible long-term future at the club.

The South Korean forward has certainly made a good impression during his first few months at Molineux. Having been signed on a season-long loan from German side RB Leipzig in the summer, he has really hit the ground running with four goals in his eight Premier League games so far.

The loan deal does include the option to make the move permanent, and according to Keen, who was speaking on the latest edition of the E&S Wolves podcast, the club are looking at the option of making it so, but they won’t be waiting until the end of the season to do it and are apparently looking to make it happen in January instead:

“That’s what I’m hearing. I think the way I’ll phrase it is this: they’re hopeful that they’ll be able to get it done in January and get it done early. Obviously, there’s the option in the loan deal to do it for around about £14m is the number – it’s in that region.

“But there’s no surprise, for me. Obviously, Bruno [Lage] has already said that he wants to keep hold of him. It’s no surprise for me that Wolves are looking to do it early, because I think he’s been very, very good.”

Given the start to the season that Hwang has made, you can certainly see why the club might be looking to make the deal happen.

Having been short of goals last season with the absence of Raul Jimenez, he does appear as though he could be the man to become Wolves’ main goal threat moving forward, even as the Mexican is starting to find his feet again.

Although, it is perhaps still a bit of a risk for them to make the decision so early. It’s not as if January is the deadline for them to make their mind up – that is at the end of the season. And whilst they may be excited by his form, there is still a lot of season left to go, and his form might suddenly fall off a cliff between now and May.

Meanwhile, at a cost of £14m, as Keen hints at, it’s not as if they would be breaking the bank to make the move happen, and wouldn’t even be in the top ten for Wolves’ most expensive deals (as per Transfermarkt). Nevertheless, it is still something that Wolves shouldn’t be rushing into making their minds up on.
