West Ham United presenter Gonzo has been speaking on the latest video from the Hammers Chat YouTube channel to discuss the club’s potential January move for Arthur Cabral.

The Hammers have gone into the 2021/22 campaign with just one senior striker in their squad in the shape of Michail Antonio, and he has experienced a slight dip in form recently.

Does Antonio need a backup?

No

No

After a strong start to the campaign which saw Antonio score four in the first three league games, the 31-year-old has failed to score in any of his last four appearances (via Transfermarkt).

Antonio has played just about every minute of Premier League action this season when available and ahead of the January transfer window, Arthur Cabral has been linked with a potential move to east London.

Discussing what the 6ft 1in Brazilian could bring to David Moyes’ Hammers, Gonzo had the following to say on the 23-year-old striker.

“Now, as I often say when I look at a lot of these players, sometimes I look at them and I just think ‘no, it just ain’t gonna happen, you’re not David Moyes’ sort of player’.

“And sometimes I just look at a player and I think ‘yep, yep, Moyesy would like this guy. Moyesy would definitely take this guy on board’. And he certainly, Cabral, certainly falls into that category, he ticks all the Moyesy boxes. He really does.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham’s striker situation…

We think that regardless of how good Antonio has been for the majority of this season, it is such a dangerous decision not to have a backup striker in your squad, especially given the injury record and age of Antonio.

And with this, we think Cabral could make a great option for West Ham in the potential absence of the Jamaican.

Across his 26 appearances in all competitions, Cabral has scored 25 goals, which suggest he could not only provide the Hammers with the necessary support for Antonio, but could also create some competition to up Antonio’s game even further.

However, if Cabral was to sign for West Ham, he would arrive in east London in sublime form – so would he be prepared to sit on the bench for the majority of the time waiting for a potential injury to Antonio? Only time will tell.
