BBC pundit Micah Richards has been speaking on the latest episode of Match of the Day 2 to analyse West Ham United’s victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

David Moyes’ Hammers earned themselves an impressive three points against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds at the London Stadium to see them enter the international break in third place of the Premier League table.

However, there was a contentious incident early on in the game which saw the VAR check a potential foul from Aaron Cresswell on Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson.

The 31-year-old cleared the ball, but his follow-through caught the Liverpool captain on the leg. No further action was taken against the left-back following a quick check from officials.

After the game, Klopp spoke of his bewilderment at the decision not to send the West Ham ace off after the incident was reviewed by Stuart Attwell.

“It’s always going to look a lot worse slowed down, but still, he is out of control.

“It’s a red card, isn’t it? It’s out of control. We talk about intensity, but [at the] end of the day, we’ve been told if a player does that sort of thing, it’s gonna be a red card.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham’s start to the season…

We have been incredibly impressed with the Hammers’ start to the 2021/22 campaign as they now sit higher than Liverpool after inflicting the first defeat of the season in the league on the Reds.

The Hammers are just four points behind league leaders Chelsea, and although we do not feel the Hammers have the capacity to make a title push, we certainly feel they could contend for a spot in the Champions League.

With Moyes’ side also topping their Europa League group, we are interested to see how their league form fares later on in the season if they are able to progress far into Europe.
